Become a Precinct Committee Person (PCP)
Precinct Committee Persons – the true champions of informing their neighborhoods and making a difference.
What is a PCP?
A precinct is the smallest political subdivision. It is your neighborhood and your neighbors.
A Precinct Committee Person (PCP) is the person who “adopts their neighborhood” for the Republican party. It’s where you can have the biggest impact for our Republican candidates as well as for conservative ideas and values for our county.
How is a PCP Chosen?
The Precinct Committee Person is elected at the precinct caucus, held in late February to early March of even-numbered years.
Precinct caucuses are meetings of registered electors within a precinct who are members of a particular major political party. The purpose of precinct caucuses is to elect precinct committee persons and delegates to county assemblies.
To run for a PCP position at caucus, you must be registered with your preferred major political party for 180 consecutive days prior, and in the county you wish to participate.
Since people tend to move and have life changes, PCP positions frequently come available and are a perfect way for you to become involved in influencing your community – taking only a small amount of your time – but impacting your county in a SUBSTANTIAL way!
How Many PCPs are in a Precinct
According to Colorado law, each precinct can have two PCPs. It is a great way for a husband and wife, family members, or neighbors and friends to make a difference by helping elect Republicans and protecting what makes Routt County and Colorado great.
What Are My Responsibilities if I Become a PCP?
Thank you for considering this important role in our county.
Here are the primary responsibilities as a Precinct Committee Person –
- GET TO KNOW YOUR PRECINCT. Stay informed on local current issues and candidates.
- ATTEND MEETINGS. A PCP attends meetings as a voting member of the Routt County Republicans Central Committee, held on the third Wednesday of each month.
- Attend training sessions to improve skills and effectiveness as a PCP. Become familiar with voting lists, precinct maps, voter registration, and candidate lists.
- SUPPORT CANDIDATES. Support nominees of the Republican Party and educate voters in your precinct about the Republican Party, it’s nominees and Republican issues.
- Build relationships with voters in your precinct by door-to-door canvassing, phone calls, social media, and/or other organizing informational gatherings.
- RECRUIT OTHERS. Recruit and maintain contact with precinct volunteers to assist with Get Out The Vote (GOTV) and other activities such as door-to-door canvassing and GOTV activities.
- PROMOTE THE PRECINCT CAUCUS. Inform voters in your precinct about the Precinct Caucus and encourage them to attend. Caucus is held every two years, between late February and early March.
